Freeze Games

Executive function skills are the brain functions we use to manage our attention, emotions, and behavior. Read more about the importance of executive function skills here.

To practice executive function skills at home, play some freeze games with the whole family. When the music stops randomly, the child needs to resist the impulse to continue moving (inhibitory control), when the music starts again, they need to remember what they are supposed to be doing (working memory), and they need to be able to adjust to what the children around them are doing (mental flexibility).

You can create your own freeze game by simply starting and stopping music. Or, you can search YouTube or Apple music for “Freeze Dance” to find a game.
